How To Make A Stuffed Animal That Will Be Cherished Forever

Every child has a favourite stuffed toy that they cherish into adulthood. Whether it's a bear, a dog, a lamb or even a pig, a soft, plush toy can be a tremendous comfort to children. Soft toys distributor outlets can be found both on and offline, and they provide kits to make your own toy; or, if you prefer and you don't have the time or skill, you can purchase a soft toy that is ready to be loved right away.

Even if you're not an experienced sewer, though, you can make a simple stuffed toy that is sure to be cherished forever. Here are some simple steps to making a soft toy for the special little ones in your life.

Choose an Animal

If the child you are making this for has a favourite, then by all means choose that animal. It could be a bird, frog, pig, dog - virtually anything. Choose the fabric based on the animal. For example, you'll want green for a frog, pink for a pig, perhaps brown for a bear or puppy. Or, you could let your imagination run wild and mix and match colours for an even more unique toy.

Trace and Cut your Fabric

Use a washable fabric marker to trace the animal on both sides of the fabric (the fabric should be folded in half.) Allow for ¼" seam around the edge. Cut out the pattern on the outer edge of the pattern. The actual marking is where you will sew the edge.

Get Stuffed

You'll want to use soft stuffing to make your stuffed toy cuddly. Beware of the type of stuffing you use, as there are several different types and not all of them are suited for all ages. Beads, for example, could pose a choking hazard for babies and toddlers. Choose from synthetic, organic, stuffing, beads, etc. Using beads will give the toy a 'bean bag' feel, while cotton will make the toy huggable, with less chance of 'spillage'.

Design the Face

You can get as creative as you like here. Use buttons for eyes felt for ears and noses and yarn for mouths. Let your imagination carry you away!

Soft toys distributor outlets can give you many creative ideas on how to create your own toy or you can buy those already assembled. If you decide to make one, you may just find you want to make even more; it might even become one of your favourite hobbies!
